How to Use MKLTYPE in ACTCAD
The MKLTYPE command in ACTCAD allows you to create custom linetype definitions using selected entities and save them to a .lin file. This feature is incredibly useful when you want full control over line appearances, whether for specialized industry standards or visually unique drafting styles.
Key Benefits of MKLTYPE:
- Enables creation of custom line types using lines, polylines, text, and shapes.
- Supports symbol- and text-based line styles (e.g., dashed lines with arrows or characters).
- Allows saving and reusing line types across different drawings or projects.
- Ideal for electrical, architectural, or civil drawings requiring unique line patterns.
Steps to Use MKLTYPE in ACTCAD:
1. Launch the MKLTYPE Command
- Type MKLTYPE in the command bar and press Enter.
- ACTCAD will prompt you to save your new line type as a .lin file.
- Choose a location and file name, then click Save.
- If you select an existing .lin file, the new linetype will be added to it—not overwrite it.

2. Enter Linetype Name
- Input a custom name for your linetype (e.g., NEW_LINETYPE).
- Add a brief description (e.g., DASHED).
- Pick a start point for your pattern in the drawing.
- Select an end point to define the pattern length.

3. Select Entities to Include
- Choose the objects that make up your linetype—these can be lines, polylines, text, or shapes.
- The selected entities define one repeating segment of your custom linetype.
- Press Enter once you’ve selected all the desired elements.

Loading and Using the New Linetype
- Type LINETYPE or LT in the command bar.
- Click Load, then browse to the location of your saved .lin file.
- Select your new linetype from the list.
- Apply the linetype to any line or polyline in your drawing as needed.

Conclusion:
The MKLTYPE command in ACTCAD is a powerful tool for customizing line graphics in your drawings. Whether you're working on electrical schematics, architectural plans, or pipeline layouts, this feature gives you complete control over line appearance and lets you create reusable, standards-compliant styles with ease.
