How to Use MKSHAPE in ACTCAD

MKSHAPE is a powerful feature in ACTCAD that allows users to create a shape definition from selected entities and save it to a shape (.shp) file. This is particularly useful in drafting when you want to design repeating patterns, symbols, or graphic elements and reuse them efficiently.

Key Features of MKSHAPE:

  • Allows you to create custom shape definitions from selected drawing entities like lines, arcs, circles, and polylines.
  • Supports setting a resolution to control the precision and quality of curves within the shape.
  • Once created and compiled, shapes can be reused across multiple drawings using the SHAPE command.
  • Shapes render faster and consume less memory than complex blocks or Xrefs, especially useful for large drawings.
  • Ensures standardization by using the same custom shapes across a team or company.

Steps to Use MKSHAPE in ACTCAD:

1. Start the Command

  • Type MKSHAPE in the command bar and press Enter.

2. Choose Output File

  • ACTCAD will ask you to specify a path and filename for the .shp file to save your shape definition.
  • A corresponding .shx file will also be created automatically.
MKSHAPE

3. Specify Shape Name

  • You will be prompted to enter a name for your new shape.
  • Use a unique and meaningful name to easily identify it later.
MKSHAPE

4. Specify Resolution

  • Enter a resolution value when prompted.
  • The default value is usually sufficient unless you need higher precision for curves.
MKSHAPE

5. Specify Insertion Base Point

  • Pick a base point that will be used as the insertion point when placing the shape later.
MKSHAPE

6. Select Entities

  • Select the drawing entities (e.g., lines, arcs, circles, polylines, etc.) that you want to include in your shape definition.
MKSHAPE

7. Load the .shx File

  • Use the LOAD command to load your shape by browsing to the .shx file.
MKSHAPE

8. Insert Using SHAPE Command

  • Type SHAPE and press Enter.
  • Select the loaded shape name from the list.
  • Specify the insertion point, scale, and rotation angle.
  • The shape will now be inserted into your drawing.

Conclusion:

The MKSHAPE command in ACTCAD offers a powerful way to create lightweight, reusable custom graphics that can significantly enhance drawing efficiency and consistency. Whether used in custom linetypes or inserted as symbols, shapes created using MKSHAPE reduce file sizes, improve performance, and streamline repetitive drafting tasks.
