POLYFIT Command : Fitting Smooth Curves to Polylines in ActCAD

The POLYFIT command in ACTCAD transforms an existing straight-segment polyline into a smooth, curve-fitted polyline. It's useful for creating natural, flowing geometry from rough outlines such as contours, road alignments, or freeform designs. The command runs the Polyline Edit (PEDIT) Fit option automatically and returns a polyline whose segments are replaced with smooth curve segments passing through the original vertices.

Steps to Use POLYFIT in ACTCAD:

  1. Step 1 : Launch the POLYFIT Command

Type POLYFIT in the command bar and press Enter.

  2. POLYFIT
  3. Step 2 : Select the Polyline to Edit

When prompted with Select polyline to edit:, click the desired polyline in the drawing area.

  4. POLYFIT
  5. Step 3 : Automatic PEDIT Execution

After selection, ACTCAD automatically runs the PEDIT command in the background and prepares to apply the Fit option.

  6. Step 4 : Apply the Fit Option

The system automatically applies the Fit option (F) to smooth the polyline segments into curves.

  7. Step 5 : Exit the PEDIT Command

After fitting, the command exits automatically (X), completing the operation.

  8. Step 6 : Result

The selected polyline is converted into a smooth, curve-fitted polyline while remaining a polyline object, so you can still edit it further if needed.

Conclusion

The POLYFIT command in ACTCAD provides a fast, automated way to convert segmented polylines into smooth curves by internally using the PEDIT Fit option. It saves time and produces clean, flowing geometry suitable for both technical and aesthetic applications.
